Tidbits

Bus travel... today I wasted 7 hours of my life sitting on a bus from Antalya to Selcuk (basically Efes/Ephesus). Wasted is a bit harsh, but I must say that despite feeling a bit stuffed travelling on buses over night, travelling during the day seems so much longer and strikes me as a waste of precious daylight. ; I"m probably just in one of those 'just travelled on the bus for a long time moods' and will feel a hundred percent tomorrow. I hope so. My feet are feeling better having had the rest though. Despite feeling a little sight seen out, tomorrow should still register as quite amazing. Efes/Ephesus is the best preserved acheological site in Turkey as far as I know, and one of the top 20 (maybe even less) places to see in the world... can't wait to be amazed yet again by what Turkey has to offer.

I'm a little sad having said good bye to Tyler as well. He's good value and I really enjoyed the past 5 days adventuring with him. He's off to work on an organic farm located about an hour east of Antalya, owned by a friend of the local Antalya foreign book store keeper. Thats the story he told me anyway... he may have just been sick of me :) After my 'stupid Canadian' remark, he promised he would write a nasty comment on my blog. The challenge stands Tyler... from a bloke whos written two novels, I expect a literary masterpiece of nastiness.

One thing that frustrates me about travelling from town to town on such a regular basis, is locating the local necessities such as good cheap food and... well... good cheap food. The case in point was that yesterday afternoon we discovered a kebap shop where you could get 50g of chicken with sald wrapped in the most delicious stretchy, chewy, soft, pliable, ductile flat bread for just $1. For $2 you would get the same thing with 100g of meat, $3 for 150g, etc. Didn't really make sense considering the bread and salad was the best bit. I was hoping for a free vegetarian meal, ie- 0g meat for $0 but no luck. You would not believe the amount of confusion and Turkish and frustration that flew between the 5 people running this little stall when the Australian asked for the unheard of... 2 x 50g kebaps instead of 1 x 100grammer. It was cheap, but boy did we work for them.

For some strange reason we decided to try a different place for tea. I asked for a lamb shish for something different... having seen some nice little piecesof lamb cooking in the corner. Eventually our meal came. My lamb shish looked just like a regular kebap on normal bread. It wasn't what I wanted but it looked appetising so I started eating. It tasted alright but the texture felt a little funny. I explored inside beyonda the covering of parsley flakes to find what looked to bits of vein, big chunks of grissly fat, and two specks of meat (how on earth they got there, I have no idea). The waitress walked past and asked pointing at the contents with an inquisative expression 'Lamb meat??' 'Yes lamb' 'Lamb??' 'Yes'. She hadn't lied I spose... it all came from lamb. I left a fair part on my plate, paid the $3 and we went to our reputable $1 kebap dealer.
Anyway, I'm off to bed. Good night!!
